Join FF Ottawa for a 7 night homestay with the Friendship Force of Volta Lake in Akosombo, Ghana, on the southern shores of Volta Lake, a two hour drive from Ghana’s capital, Accra. "Lake Volta, the largest artificial reservoir in the world based on surface area, is contained behind the Akosombo Dam which generates a substantial amount of Ghana's electricity. It is completely within the country of Ghana and has a surface area of 8,502 square kilometres"*

Highlights of the journey include:

  • Volta Lake cruise
  • Visits to local school, orphanage, and medical clinic
  • Tour of a Hydro Plant
  • A festival meeting with local Chiefs
  • spending time with your hosts

Following the Journey, the group is hoping to plan time in Accra for a couple of days as well as a day tour to the Cape Coast to visit two well preserved “slave castles” at Cape Coast and St. George’s d’Elmina, as well as a visit to the Kakum National Park where you can see the the park using a spectacular forest canopy walk on a suspended bridge. (Not included in the estimated cost.)
