Belém is known for its rich cultural heritage, diverse ecosystems, and proximity to the Amazon Rainforest. This geographical asset offers the city a diversity of local food products such as seafood, açaí, cocoa, pupunha, roots and herbs. It’s an explosion of flavors and colors! In 2025, Belém is also set to host the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP30), from the United Nations (UN) and this event is crucial to combat climate change.

Brazil holds a unique position due to its vast rainforest, which serves as a crucial carbon sink and biodiversity hotspot. Brazilian policies focus on reducing deforestation, promoting renewable energy, fostering sustainable agriculture and combating socio-economic inequality on indigenous communities: all vital for its role in global climate efforts.

The Pantanal is one of the largest tropical wetland areas in the world, covering around 150,000 km2, is renowned for its rich biodiversity and serves as a critical ecosystem for both local and global environmental health. It is home to an extraordinary array of plant and animal species, including many which are endemic or endangered. It supports over 650 species of birds, 300 species of mammals, and countless aquatic and terrestrial species, making it one of the most biologically diverse regions on the planet. The wetland plays a vital role in regulating the water/rain cycle in the entire Southern continent. It’s also home to various indigenous communities and traditional populations that depend on its resources for their livelihoods. The Pantanal faces several environmental threats, including deforestation, agriculture expansion, overfishing, cattle ranching, and climate change impacts such as extreme droughts and floods. These challenges necessitate a concerted effort to promote sustainable practices within the region. International collaboration and support are also critical for conserving the Pantanal, given its significance not only for Brazil but also for global biodiversity and climate stability.
